Sourcing
Patchouli is a fairly hardy tropical plant species. It tolerates hot climates but also requires plenty of water and some shade. Indonesia is one of the world's largest exporters of patchouli.
Patchouli is a perennial shrub belonging to the mint family. It grows to about one meter in height and produces small, pinkish flowers. The essential oil is extracted from the leaves of the plant. Freshly picked leaves are dried in the air for several days before distillation. When dried, they shrink to only one-third of their original weight. Following drying, distillation of the leaves takes at least eight hours.
